There are no digital-nomad family rules because the visa itself is not enacted. Family members can, in principle, be included under the general temporary-residence framework, applied for separately and on their own documentation. Anyone planning a family move should base it on the existing residence rules, not on the proposed nomad scheme.

Against its neighbours, North Macedonia is the laggard on this specific product. Albania, Montenegro, and further out Croatia and Slovenia all have working arrangements for remote workers, while North Macedonia is still at the announcement stage after several years. Its flat 10% tax and low cost of living are genuine draws, but on visa certainty it trails the rest of the Balkans.

The most useful thing to know is to distrust confident guides that present a North Macedonia "nomad visa" as bookable — several aggregator pages list fees and income figures for a program that has not launched, and acting on them wastes time. If you want to be in the country legally beyond the 90-day limit now, plan for the Type D temporary residence permit and its ordinary requirements: passport, accommodation, health insurance, a criminal-record certificate, and proof you can support yourself.
