Namibia Digital Nomad Visa: Requirements, Income & How to Apply (2026)

The visa is open to remote employees, freelancers, and owners of a business, as long as the income comes from outside Namibia. There is no degree requirement and no fixed profession list. Namibian citizens cannot apply. The gate is income and documentation: you show that you earn at least US$2,000 a month from foreign sources and that you can support any family who come with you.

One requirement stands out from most nomad programs — Namibia asks for a medical certificate and a radiological (chest X-ray) report alongside the usual police clearance. That health-screening step is easy to miss and worth arranging early.

The threshold is set in US dollars, not Namibian dollars: US$2,000 a month for the main applicant. That is one of the lower income bars in Africa, well beneath South Africa's requirement and far below the Caribbean stamps. Family raises it on a fixed schedule — add US$1,000 a month for a spouse and US$500 a month per child — so a couple with one child needs to show US$3,500 a month.

You prove it with payslips or an employment contract plus six months of bank statements. Because the figure is denominated in dollars, the Namibian-dollar amount you see quoted shifts with the exchange rate, but the qualifying test itself is always the US-dollar number.

You apply to the NIPDB rather than to a traditional consulate visa desk, submitting the application form, proof of income, bank statements, police clearance, the medical and radiological reports, and insurance. The application is assessed and, once the Ministry of Home Affairs grants formal approval, you pay the NAD 3,300 fee before travelling — the payment comes after approval, not with the initial submission.

The process is administrative and email-driven rather than in-person, which keeps it accessible from abroad, but the medical documentation adds a step that trips up applicants who leave it to the last minute.

Namibia taxes on a source basis, meaning it taxes income earned from a Namibian source and generally leaves foreign-source income alone. For a nomad earning from an overseas employer or foreign clients, that keeps your salary outside the local tax net, and the six-month visa is not built to create tax residency. There is no dedicated nomad tax regime and no published concession beyond the ordinary source rules, so the practical position is that your foreign earnings are not taxed in Namibia. Your home-country tax obligations are unaffected.

Family is welcome and handled through a clear income add-on rather than a separate visa track. A spouse adds US$1,000 a month to the income you must show and each child adds US$500, layered on top of the US$2,000 base. Everyone is tied to the same six-month, non-renewable window, so the whole family plans around a single season rather than a rolling stay.

Namibia is the short-and-cheap option in southern Africa. Next door, South Africa asks for far more income — the equivalent of ZAR 650,976 a year — but grants up to three years and a renewable status, so it suits people who want to settle in. Namibia's US$2,000 monthly bar undercuts that comfortably, and it beats the Caribbean programs on affordability, but its six-month cap and 12-month wait before you can reapply make it a base for a season rather than a year-round home. If you want length, look at South Africa or Mauritius; if you want a cheap, low-commitment half-year in the region, Namibia fits.

Two things catch applicants out. The first is the health paperwork: the medical certificate and chest X-ray report are genuine requirements, not optional extras, and sorting them late slows the whole file. The second is the duration rule — the visa is firmly six months and non-renewable, and you cannot reapply until 12 months after your previous visa expired, so treat it as a one-shot season and plan your exit before you arrive. Get the police clearance translated into English if your home country issues it in another language, keep six clean months of bank statements above the US$2,000 line, and remember the NAD 3,300 fee is only due once you are approved.
